Last week we studies homophones within reading and writing. We will conitnue to study these within Mobymax as well.

This week, students will discuss the difference in summarizing non-fiction verses summarizing fiction. We will practice this within our book clubs, reading TFK, as well as reading passages on Read Works and Mobymax.
When your child reads non-fiction books, novels, or Raz kids passages at home, ask him/her to summarize it using the hand-method. This will be added to our interactive active notebook. Feel free to ask your child to bring it home to see help them explain the hand or five finger summarizing method.
WRITERS WORKSHOP
Last, week your child learned how to conclude his/her persuasive essay. They should be able to tell you the six things that belong in a concluding paragraph of a persuasive essay.
(topic sentence restating thesis statements, three reasons/evdience for the argument, and a request for the audience to take action, and concluding transition statements like to summarize, to conclude, in brief. . . )
This week we will be focusing on editing our essay, spelling rules, and reviewing commas when used with coordinating conjunctions.
These aruguments we be published, reviewed, and added to our Leadership notebooks. Please ask your child to bring home his/her leadership notebook over the break to show you if they reached their writing goal or not. They can use the rubric to explain why or why not.
