Numbers and Base Ten and Order of Operations Continued. . .
Last week, we worked with place value and making numbers with decimals bigger or smaller by powers of 10. In the past students knew that as a number moves up and down each place value, it becomes ten times bigger or smaller. (NBT 1) With whole numbers students knew to add or take away a zero. But when adding decimals, this no longer is applicable. They now know that moving the decimal allows for each number to gain or decrease values by ten times.
This week we are continuing our study of decimals and multiplciation but we are also going to incorporate concepts of division from the Operations and Algebraic Unit and begin working with variables, patterns, and order of operations. This will help scaffold learning when we begin our study of multi-digit division.
OA.4 I can gain familiarity of factor pairs in the range of 1-100.
OA.5 I can generate and analyze patterns that follow a given rule. (ex add 3 and the starting number 1
We will also explore using rackets, parenthesis, and braces to help identify the order in which we solve operations.
