Nov 28-Dec 3
This week students will be reviewing their post tests within the NBT (Numbers and Base Ten) unit to see what concepts were mastered and what concepts were developing. Your child will reflect on his/her goal to see if he/she met it. Then, we will be writing a new goal for the unit of Operations and Algegbraic thinking. Students will look at his/her pretest to see how much they think they will grow in points. The binders will be sent home for your child to explain to you. These need to come back the next day. Please do not focus on the score or percentage, rather, ask your child which standards they have mastered and which standards they are still developing in. For example, do you understand how to round numbers up through the mllions (NBT 3) or was that a silly mistake? Your child should be able to articulate which problems were silly mistakes and which problems they missed because they have not mastered the concets yet.
Once the goal reflecting is complete, we will be going back to study and analzie patterns and equations with and without variables.
The post test for this unit will be taking before the holiday break, seeing that we have been working on concepts from this unit all year.
Once this unit is complete, we will move onto fractions.

I can
Generate a number or shape pattern that follows a given rule. Identify apparent features of the pattern that were not explicit in the rule itself. For example, given the rule "Add 3" and the starting number 1, generate terms in the resulting sequence and observe that the terms appear to alternate between odd and even numbers. Explain informally why the numbers will continue to alternate in this way.
