Nov 7-11
This week is our celebration of our Character Study Unit. We are beginning the week with our Wax Museum which will take place in the MPR at 9:30-10:30am. Please have your child come dressed as his/her character with one prop. (book, backpack, wand, etc.)
Students are continuing their 40 book challenge and reading comprehension goal based on the DRA levels and Raz kids. Students have set a personal reading goal to accomplish each week including reading a minimum of 150 minutes per week at home, and discussing what they read with a classmate, parents, and/or friend. These are being tracked in leadership binders.
We will continue with reading our book club books while comparing and contrasting themes among fictional literature. Beginning our 2 quarter, students will be introduced to non-fictional reading strategies that will help grow their comprehension through on or above grade leveled texts.
Students are continuing to work on language standards within both Reader's and Writer's Workshop including personification, grammar, and convention rules.
Students should continue to read Razkids at home with a goal of a minimum of 150 minutes a week.
WRITERS WORKSHOP
Students have published their personal narrative post tests on "Special Moments!" These are being sent in this Thursday to the publishing company. Those who ordered these should have them by mid December. A copy of these stories, along with a graded rubric, has been added to your child's leadership notebook.
Our online stories, should be submitted November 16th! If you returned the paperwork, you will receive a free copy of a different personal narrative that your child has spent the last month working on! These should also arrive mid December!
We will be moving into writing opinion pieces for the 2nd quarter. More information will be posted once students have completed their online personal narratives.
