Month of May
We have concluded our Newbery Challenge. Students will complete a goal reflection to help them understand themselves better as a reader and to uncover why the did or did not meet their goal.
We have begun our author study to help students reveal what makes great writing this will be paired with our Writer's Workshop. Help your child choose an author that writes, just right books for your child and has several that they have already read and want to reread.
We will discuss in class the 6+1 writing traits and how to identify theme great writing. In in order to best support students, we as a group, will read, study, and compare books by Patricia Polacco.
Our 40 book challenge is still in progress. We will also continue using our non-fiction reading skills when working with our Time For Kids magazines.
I have begun DRA testing this week as well. Students scores will be added to their leadership notebooks once they are completed and scored.
WRITERS WORKSHOP-
For the month of May, students are taking what they have learned over the course of the year and applying it into their own writing Students are using their narrative writing by studying the 6+1 writing traits when attempting to find evidence and write like their favorite authors.
We will also be incorporating persuasive and informational writing samples into our Social Studies PBL called What in the World did we do.
