Jan 16-20
Last, week students began reading and digging into Michigan's history and how the Early European immigrants affected the daily life of Michigan Inhabitants. Students should now understand why the French came to Michigan and what they were looking for. Students should also be able to discuss the cause and effect relationships between the French and Native Americans once the French settled there. (Ask them about fur trade, disease, weapons, etc.)
This week, we will begin to study the historical events leading up to the French and Indian War. We will also discuss the perspectives of the British, French, and Native Americans around the time of that particular war.
Next week we will continue to move through history seeing how events in Michigan and near Detroit were associated with frustrations of colonial life and how these events contributed to the revolutionary war. We will also try and uncover the numerous perspectives of the French, Native Americans, British loyalists, and Colonialists during that time.
Students will be involved in writing and performing a skit to show the varying viewpoints through this historical time frame. More information will be posted around the beginning of February regarding this group project.
H3.5 - I can use and create informational text and visual data to compare American Indians and Settlers in early history of Michigan.
